If you want a light and powerful bike but more maintenance, go for an enduro/motocross to supermoto conversion. Something like 250/300 2stroke or 450/500 4stroke. Just something about being on a thumper makes it much more fun than being on a road bike and I feel the tenere 700 will fill that gap once it comes out.
