The quickest way is to get the camp by the hills unlocked (the one by the Dragon and ruins), and then run down to the mine area, kill the group, fast travel back to camp, save, load, and do it again. From what I heard, each companion specializes into a certain type. You can't just have all of your warriors as reavers for example. I believe they did this to further specialize the companions. If you notice, their are 9 companions and 9 specialization classes. Weapon types are free to be switched out and specced however. Champion.
